Senior Accountant / Assistant to Controller

Position Summary
This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records while supporting month end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role works closely with leadership and cross-functional departments to provide financial analysis, improve processes, and support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Review and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and procedures.
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, and asset tracking.
  • Support cash management activities, including bank reconciliations.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting best practices.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, SAP or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Experience

  • Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in manufacturing, real estate, construction, or corporate accounting environments.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting audits.
